With spring, preparing the soil barely scratches the surface of what we have to do to prepare for the planting season. A hybrid of words like smart planter, clean sweep, speed tubes, down force, variable rate capabilities, soil scans and mapping, fertilizer and nitrogen saturate the field of planting long before the first day of planting.
Beyond cultivating and tilling the soil, the planting process is technologically sophisticated with many monitors in place on the planter and in the tractor. This is done to ensure that each of the thousands of seeds dropped per minute into the soil are planted at an ideal depth to properly grow. It is critical that we are planting every day at maximum capacity, as earlier the seeds are planted, the better chance they have in reaching their full yield potential.
21st Century farming continues to rapidly grow with technology, so we have integrated precision planting to our farming practices. We realize how precision planting is where new ideas and technology contribute to better seed spacing, better depth control and better root systems.
As with all farm operations these days, technology is all the buzz so planting is without exception. Precision planting allows us to do more with less, manage our operations in a whole new way, and ultimately make decisions faster than ever before.
We’ve fine-tuned our planter to perform just right, invested in the right seeds for every acre and have the right starter program to give this year’s crop an early boost. Now our rows are ready to hold all our potential for the season.
With Smart Planter, we can put eyes inside every row measuring organic matter, moisture, residue and temperature. It allows us to optimize hybrid selection, population, depth, fertility and row cleaners in real time.
In order to create the best soil fertility, Runge Farms is a proponent of applying nitrogen throughout the planting process. To accomplish this goal, we are capitalizing upon greener solutions through new technologies like Green Lightning. This on-farm, nitrogen, totally green, plasma technology creates nitrate fertilizer on-site and on-demand with a simple combination of air, water, and electricity, replicating the natural nitrate creation process found in thunderstorms.
The Green Lightning process draws nitrogen from the air and into water where it can then be used for crop production allowing us to maximize the benefits of creating rapid nutrient absorption and amazing growth in all plants, while reducing carbon emissions, improving soil health and being cost effective. In other words, Green Lightening, which is being referred to as, “Gatorade for the plant,” is in the simplest form – fertilizing naturally!
Beginning in September, the harvest begins! And with harvest, being efficient becomes vitally important for many reasons. When conditions are right, we want to get crops harvested in a timely manner while those conditions are still in effect. This means the equipment including the combine and its heads, auger wagons, semi-trucks and bins better be ready to roll. It is critical to maximize productivity during this time; we can save fuel costs and puts less hours on machinery, which in turn means fewer break downs and repairs. Also, a timely harvest may mean shorter lines at the elevator and more time for fall post-harvest operations such as cover crop planting, fall herbicide application, manure/fertilizer application, or fall tillage. So when the plants say they are ready and the weather is cooperating, it’s time to go, no matter what else is going on.
With the technology of Yield Sense, we can make sense of our yield data and make better decisions for our operation, get simple, reliable results, instant connectivity and sharing, yield-by-hybrid reports from the cab, and zone-by-zone yield data unlike any other yield monitor.
In other words, we can capture and analyze our field’s performance by management zones. Then plan for next season with our harvest data integrated with our planting solution.
